About Hugh McCormack

Hugh has worked in marketing and market research for most of his career. Having cut his teeth working in London for Industrial Market Research (IMR) under the tutelage of Aubrey Wilson, he has worked for both client side organisations and full-service agencies in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Norwich and Nottingham.

His full range of research experience includes B2C and FMCG, B2B and industrial, social and public sector research.

Born in Bristol, he is a graduate in Economics from Cardiff University.

He's also a fully paid up member of the Optimists Club: he's offering decent odds that Bristol City will get to the Premiership in 09/10; England RFU will win the Triple Crown, if not the full Grand Slam in 08/09; and the IPL not withstanding, England will regain the Ashes in '09.

He is married (to another market researcher) and has two children.

  • 32 years in market research
  • experience of both client and agency roles
  • member of the MRS, CIM, BIG and ICG
  • specialist experience in general insurance, wholesale and retail, leisure and tourism, power utilities and education

Fundraising

Hugh likes his sport and recreation and regularly challenges his office-bound physique to achieve things that were only a dream when he was younger; coastal yacht sailing, long distance cycling, hill walking, downhill and cross country skiing, 'coasteering' and gorge walking, river rafting, swimming & gyming.

In 2007 he completed the Coast to Coast bike ride from Workington to Newcastle and also passed his RYA Practical Day Skipper at Plas Menai – both of which were slightly damp experiences!

In 2008 he thought he’d take up a slightly different challenge. Putting his pedals where his feet are Hugh not only completed the 50 mile Great Nottingham Bike Ride on 22nd June raising funds for a number of Nottingham-based charities, but also raised funds for the Royal British Legion by cycling 275 miles with 250 other helmeted souls from London to Paris, starting in Greenwich Park 4th September and finishing under the Arc de Triomphe four days later.

He's raised just over £2,000 so far for the Legion.

Further bike-based activity is being planned for 2009 including a repeat appearance in the 50 mile Great Nottingham Bike Ride, a possible Paris to Geneva ride raising funds for Asthma UK as well as a 'top to tail' tour of the Outer Hebrides.

Details of these will be included as plans are firmed up.
